even the telemarketers don’t want me.

by Amy Makice

Amy Makice is a social worker actively working on two other family-centered projects, Creative Family Resources and Parenting for Humanity. Amy has a weekly online show on BlogTalkRadio.

The phone rings and I answer, just in case it’s the cable company wanting to know where their money is (I sent it, I swear, on Monday).

An announcer says, “Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with your credit accounts, but we would like to lower your interest rate. We are only making this offer to a few select qualified card holders. Press ‘9′ if you are tired of high interest rates.”

So, our interest rates are sky high, and it’d be quite helpful to lower them. Despite my hatred of telemarketing and lingering questions as to how “select” the participants must be if we’re a part of the club, I press ‘9′.

“May I help you? What extention do you want?”

“Umm- I was just pressing 9 because I’m tired of high interest rates.”

“Oh, my. You were called by accident. Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.”

sigh.
