A Ph.D student in informatics at Indiana University, Kevin is rich in spirit. He wrestles and reads with his kids, does a hilarious Christian Slater imitation and lights up his wife's days. He thinks deeply about many things, including but not limited to basketball, politics, microblogging, parenting, online communities, complex systems and design theory. On thursday — after a good two weeks of considering the option to do so — Amy and I decided I should accept an invitation to the new Ph.D. program in Informatics at Indiana University. Joining a program I could help shape in a young field with lots of freedom to invent was a no brainer. The bigger concern was how to go about being dirt poor for another four years. While that hasn’t been 100% figured out, I’ve got enough good leads to think it will work.
Now, to finish that masters degree …
