A Ph.D student in informatics at Indiana University, Kevin is rich in spirit. He wrestles and reads with his kids, does a hilarious Christian Slater imitation and lights up his wife's days. He thinks deeply about many things, including but not limited to basketball, politics, microblogging, parenting, online communities, complex systems and design theory. I’m glad I’ve been going to this NetSci 2006 thing, but it is too packed and dense with information to do anything else during the day. It was an easy decision not to bring a laptop, especially since my laptop does not have wireless. However, that puts a lot more pressure on the evening to feel connected with the rest of the world. I came home yesterday to find no such connection, and woke up a couple of times in the middle of the night to see if it was back.

Fake college football recruiting suffered in WIS, and my volumes of email will go unanswered another day. Mostly, though, I get this edgy, jittery nervousness when away from email and info resources for that long. Jumping out of a burning skyscraper would be worse, but — at least in the moment — being without Internet access isn’t that far behind.
