Big Honkin’ Spider

This is making a man-sized web in our front yard:

It is about the size of the top of my thumb, which I’m convinced it is prepared to eat. Any insect scientists out there who might tell us whether we need to feed it birds, or call animal control?

    Good to know, thanks. My little/big friend disappeared two days ago after a rain, and I was wondering if he was going to move into the house
