Two long weeks of academic work made it difficult to accomplish much in my quest to organize a RootsCamp for Bloomington, Indiana. There has been a lot of activity on the parent wiki this week as bigger cities start to recruit people to organize. It’s intimidating, since I’m not concerning myself with a number of things — food, t-shirts, guest speakers — that are part of the to-do list. In fact, my logistical goal is to provide as much as possible without any money being spent.
To that end, I think I just secured a home for the first two sessions on Friday, November 17. I went to the library, got my first Bloomington library card and used it online to reserve a couple rooms that day. I’ll know by midweek if that will fly, but there is no reason at this point to think otherwise. That means I just need to get a site for the final session (or maybe I’ll add a fifth?) on Saturday.
What comes next is about a month of pestering everyone I know about it, trying to get people to attend. If we get 10, I’ll be as happy as if we get 100.
