Of course, the second child doesn’t get quite the same early childhood as the first. Instead of the standby advice, “sleep when the baby sleeps,” you get, “bribe your way back into your firstborn’s heart while the baby sleeps.”
We do just as many outings, it’s just rare that I take two boys someplace where quiet is encouraged. Our outings focus mostly on large muscle activities. Parks, hikes, running the ramps at the mall on a rainy day.
Today we took a new route to music class that involved driving by the county library. Archie looked out the window and exclaimed:
“Wow, Look, Mommy! Is that some kind of mall?”
Mommy: Well, no. It’s a library.
Archie: Wow, Mommy!! A library? We have a LIBRARY? A library would be FUN! Why don’t we go THERE?
yeah yeah. We’re making plans to go, despite the big carpeted ledge that screams “Climb on me,” and the librarian who whispers, “no climbing,” and the very echo-ey foyer (that suggests, “burp,” or “tell Mommy you’re poopy right this moment.”)

Well, the “tell Mommy you’re poopy right this moment” stories are the stuff that makes up family legend. I say go for it, maybe first thing in the morning before there are too many cranky adult patrons around
