Eli and Shunying were married last night at Beck Chapel. It was a great personalized ceremony that featured several languages. There were no translations, which while confusing for English-only listeners seemed very appropriate to event. In the pews were almost as many kids as adults, which is a new experience for me. Carter read books while Archie climbed around on the floor with his monster bad guy sneaking of on his brother’s toe.

The most unique moment, though, was the reading of the wedding vows, inspired by Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham. An excerpt from the mind of Marty Blase (who also penned a poem about going to see the movie Saw III):

Pastor: Will you love her if you’re rich?
Or if you’re poor, and in a ditch?

Groom: Yes, I’ll love her if we’re rich,
And I will love her in a ditch,
I’ll love her through good times and bad,
Whether we are happy or sad,
Yes, I will have, and I will hold
(I could have sworn this has been told!)
I promise to love all my life
This woman, as my lawful wife!

A very Eli evening. I was honored to be there, and sorry we had to miss out on what was probably excellent food later that evening.
