Today’s IDS reported a mostly-old-news update on Chris Soghoian’s issues with TSA (”Send Chris Money”), but there was this shoe dropped in the text:

A Ph.D student in informatics at Indiana University, Kevin is rich in spirit. He wrestles and reads with his kids, does a hilarious Christian Slater imitation and lights up his wife's days. He thinks deeply about many things, including but not limited to basketball, politics, microblogging, parenting, online communities, complex systems and design theory. He didn't, however, think up this profile.

Today’s IDS reported a mostly-old-news update on Chris Soghoian’s issues with TSA ("Send Chris Money"), but there was this shoe dropped in the text:
Soghoian said he is disappointed with IU for its lack of support in this situation. He plans to finish his classes at IU for another year and then transfer to a different university to get his doctoral degree.
Too bad, if it’s true. Chris had mentioned a desire to do his dissertation in another country, but it would be a loss for IU (and him) if the Ph.D. wasn’t attached to the School of Informatics.
Either way, make sure you keep your feed running through Planet Info, Chris.

Today in Social Informatics seminar, Chris confirmed that the IDS wasn’t accurate. The blurb in the article freaked out his advisor and the program heads, who were wondering if they needed to reallocate his funding.
He’s not leaving. He just wants to do his dissertation work outside of Bloomington, when that point comes.
