Meta-telling

Archie and Carter had Max and Maddie over to play yesterday. Archie was awakened from his nap and was somewhat cranky, so the playdate was not without its speed bumps. My favorite though, was from Max.
Max: (Hurrying past the cat’s table to get me) Amy? Amy? Archie is coming inside to (stops to massage the [...]

Poop poop eee doop

Carter and Archie are outside playing. Carter flies through the back door-
MOM! You have GOT to talk to Archie and teach him that only peeing is allowed outside!
Yet another of a long list of conversations I never thought I’d have, and one that would send Kevin through the roof. Then, Archie decides to shave a [...]

Conflicting Messages

“It’s funny because it’s true” goes the familiar statement of the obvious, but one of Steven Wright’s humorous observations on Twitter made me consider life from my son’s perspective. I’m too far removed from childhood to be able to get at these kinds of thoughts myself without regular therapy, but Carter is in the middle of these kinds of conflicting messages all the time.

Until this blog grows to a point where readers comment in long threads, I don’t think there is a reason to panic by adding CAPTCHA. And without CAPTCHA, there is no argument for reCAPTCHA.

Listen

Interrupted routines, illnesses, homeowner woes, same old same old financial crap- all of it has been coalescing, causing me to retreat into isolation, enjoying those moments when everyone else is busy and I am listening to music while sawing at spare tires. (Pictures to come later)
Yesterday, the boys and I decided to run around one [...]

Clipmarks

The application is about a year old, but a major upgrade late last February put Clipmarks—a browser tool that allows you to save portions of web content for later review—into a new stratosphere of functional social networking. The benefits of the tool are potentially huge. Not only is this a great way to browse content on the Internet by letting it come to you, but it is relatively easy to identify users interested enough in that topic to clip and comment about it. More importantly for academics, it is a wonderful application to aid in consumption of academic journals and abstracts available online.
