At the pool Tuesday Carter was looking pensive.

Carter: Mommy? If you hadn’t married Daddy, who would you have married?

Me: Well, Daddy’s pretty special- it’s hard to imagine anyone being quite like him. Why do you ask?

Carter: Maddie said she’d marry me this morning, and I’m not sure I want to get married quite yet. I mean, I already promised Anneka I’d marry her, and I’m already probably going to break that promise. I’m just not quite ready to choose yet.

Thank heaven for small favors. Between marriage and all those kids he’s got a lot on his plate.
