Bob Dylan is my Facebook Friend

Dylan rocks. Now, he rocks for me.

Well, he sings on my profile page, at any rate.

Bob Dylan facebook app
Techlightenment built a Facebook application to promote a Dylan song

Another entry in the Cool-but-Useless marketing applications for Facebook is this application promoting Bob Dylan’s latest work. Tech Crunch just profiled it with the courtesy of embedding the original Dylan video inspiring the app.

The application, created by Techlightenment, allows you to add a clip from the “Subterranean Homesick Blues” where a very young Bob Dylan stands in an alley dropping placards one by one, each with a portion of the song lyrics written on it. It is a technique done by more recent bands, most famously by INXS and Weird Al Yankovic, and even the movies (Tim Robbins’ eerie conservative politico movie, “Bob Roberts,” features a song—Wall Street Rap—with the same card schtick). This FB tool allows you to customize the content on ten of the cards before ending with two promoting Dylan’s October 1 album release.

It Facebook-izes the Dylan Message site, which has a slicker interface. It also allows you to get embedding code to include in other places, like your blog. Dylan rocks. Now, he rocks for me.

Ode to Life

By Kevin Makice

A Ph.D student in informatics at Indiana University, Kevin is rich in spirit. He wrestles and reads with his kids, does a hilarious Christian Slater imitation and lights up his wife's days. He thinks deeply about many things, including but not limited to basketball, politics, microblogging, parenting, online communities, complex systems and design theory. He didn't, however, think up this profile.
