I routinely type id-vomit (what are you freaking kidding you idiot moron)and then edit for kindness and social acceptability (I'm wondering if you could clarify your position.) The comments by Rob May suggest that somehow the human dynamics will be affected by this visual, searchable, time-stampable social network identity we have. But I believe we have always had multi-faceted identities. And whenever an individual undergoes change - even for the better - it always causes a stress on past relationships. That it may happen in (online) public, will cause more stress. This stress will have an effect, as May suggests. But I think the positive view of the outcome is that "naked" online social representations may push us to better define our roles in real social contexts. If I have 5-6 different online handles and identities, it's as much due to the boredom of filling out yet another set of online forms w/ every new social networking service I sign up for as due to some desire for anonymity. I think it's nifty that Google has their AuthSub service, allowing a person to login to their Google account w/out giving their credentials to a site. I know there are other standards out there for sharing identity or portable info, but they don't seem to have gained much traction.
