The School of Informatics can really benefit from the success of SproutBox and partnering with them right away. SproutBox will be hiring a small team in September that could certainly include some representation from SOI, and having them work with capstone students early in the process might turn some of our research and evaluation projects into practical business ideas.

I'm currently campaigning to have a "community fair" during Orientation week or very early in the semester. In addition to showcasing our own labs and research groups, local businesses and organizations would be invited to have a presence and introduce themselves to new and returning students.

The second initiative is a startup weekend kind of event in October, ideally hosted at the School by SproutBox. Fall is an ideal time for such an activity. New students are in between first-semester panics, and second-year students are not yet stressed about completing their capstone. This works out particularly well for the SproutBox timetable, which will look for new business applications in the spring.
