Will you remember me tomorrow?

Carter’s lunch riddle today amused me greatly, but perhaps was lost on the first grade crowd:

Will you remember me tomorrow?
(assumed answer of yes)
Will you remember me in a week?
(yes)
Will you remember me in a month?
(yes)
Will you remember me in a year?
(yes)
Knock, Knock
(who’s there?)
Did you forget me already?

Well, I thought it was funny.

On the way home I asked Carter and Maddie about it- Carter said, “Yeah, thanks, Mom, it was like two different jokes.” I walked him through the joke again.

When I got to the punch line, he said, “But Mom, the person answering the door is always inside, so they can’t see that it’s the person they are supposed to remember. They just hear a knock.”

Then Maddie said, “Do it to me,”

Will you remember me tomorrow?
Maddie: No.
Will you remember me in a week?
Maddie: No.
Will you remember me in a month?
Maddie: No.
Will you remember me in a year?
Maddie: No.
Knock Knock
Maddie: Amy?

Well, I thought it was funny.
