Stolen identity is not uncommon in the online world. The microblogging darling Twitter was not immune, with people spoofing tweets for everyone from Bill Gates to George Bush. Now, it is atheist Richard Dawkins’ turn.
FriendFeed-ing Frenzy
It has been a rough stretch for Twitter. Despite another influx of funding, continued downtime and issues with terms of service policies served as a final straw from some members of the community. Where Twitter seems to have held off Jaiku and Pownce, it is an uber-aggregator of microcontent—FriendFeed—that has become the destination of choice among disgruntled twitterers.

We had the boys stay up a little past the start of our nighttime routines to watch the Mars Phoenix probe land on Mars. Or, more precisely, we watched Science Channel’s live coverage of the NASA engineers who made it happen.
The Lights Go Down
We have entered a new age of Twitter utility. From simple bedroom lights to houseplants to historic bridges, the inanimate is coming alive in the form of tweets to alert and respond to user interactions.

After asking for several weeks, Archie finally got his hair cut. We went to the nearby mall on my birthday, meeting up with some friends running the same errand. His ideal coif was inspired by Luke Skywalker.

One Million Twitterers
In March 2007, Twitter became the darling of the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. An award-winning presence there launched the microblogging service into the Web 2.0 stratosphere, leading to capital investments and a community of developers and fans. By the time SXSW returns next month (March 7-16), Twitter almost certainly will have surpassed one million members.
