A few catch-up discussions to share. Yesterday, we arrived at playgroup after two of his buddies had already initiated a rather competitive soccer game. Carter’s reaction was to pull out his book and sit inside reading. I settled in next to him to see if he needed assistance in joining his friends, or if he [...]
Sticking it to the man.
Our new TV “compromise” is that we don’t watch during the week, but they have free access to their TIVO treasure trove on the weekend. For such a dramatic change, Archie has required some sort of methodone. We’ve chosen Noggin. This morning, he was happily playing Maisy alphabet blocks. Friendly Maisy Man: The letter G [...]
Blow my horn
Archie’s going through a hitting phase lately. He’s unsuccessfully attempting to merge his violence and threats with our gentle parenting attempts at providing reasonable choices and limits. Observe: Archie: I want to watch something when we get home. Me: We’ve got the TV off during the week. You can play outside with me, or we [...]
Keeping uncles straight. . . .
Today we’re driving by Bryan Park. Carter: Hey! Is that the park where. . . my uncle. . . what’s his name? I can’t believe I forgot his name! Archie: Uncle Ryan? Carter: No, Archie, Uncle Ryan isn’t dead. Of course not. He’s just far away. Archie: I don’t know any dead ones. Me: Uncle [...]
Bath pictures, still missing dad

We’ve been trying to send pictures daily, but I slacked some, and I don’t want to -a-hem- adjust the date of the post. Anyway, after lots of you-live-on-the-mulch/island, and I-live-on-the-trampoline/houseboat-we-can-visit-when-firemonsters-attack play, a bath [...]
Sit right back and we’ll tell a tale. . . .
Another installation in our effort to send Daddy daily pictures. . . . We got a big pile of mulch, so despite the lovely playset that we have, the mulch pile is the center of our universe. Walking home from school today there was excited chatter about how big, how dirty, how high. Carter and [...]
We still miss Kevin, still.
The boys spent the afternoon, literally, spreading mud all over themselves. Afterward, we took pictures, but iphoto crashed under the weight of such artsy photos. Instead, we have me coaching the boys, saying, “pretend you can see Daddy, right here, right now. What do you look like?” These photos contain their answers.
