Some good regional tech news to push out to people at the Bloomington Geek Dinner tonight at Michael’s Uptown Cafe tonight at 6p: We’re having a Blog IN on Saturday, April 26 from 1pm to 5pm at IUPUI School of Informatics in Indianapolis. Our goal is to attract as many bloggers as we can from around the state for a half-day of fun, learning, relationship building, tip sharing, and more.
New Knight, Same Channel
I received a promo for the Pat Knight show from Texas Tech, the first I’ve seen since legendary basketball coach Bob Knight resigned earlier this month. I wonder if this would have been the local news this week had the elder Knight remained in Bloomington.
The Midwest Tech Corridor
What will it take to become a high tech power in this country? Efforts like Smaller Indiana are trying to answer that question. While Indiana is not likely to sprout a new Google in the short-term, the future is necessarily built off of the communities with which we engage today. To that end, I invite and encourage readers with interests in information technology and design to start the process by joining local organizations
Bandwidth instead of Bumperwidth
The Ottawa Citizen reported last week that their city was attempting to cut costs and boost efficiency by endorsing telecommuting for some employees. Even for smaller cities like Bloomington, there is still an argument to be made in terms of environmental footprint and resource networks to encourage workers to spend less time in the physical office.
Starting up Bloomington Startup
Since last November, a small number of local organizers have worked to secure City Hall to be the site for Bloomington Startup on Feb. 8-10. Today at the Design House, we kick-started the campaign with a meeting to talk strategy and divide up responsibilities.
Vote early AND often
My semester-long quest to bring Startup Weekend to Bloomington has a little campaigning to do … at least from the parent organization. We’re having our weekend on February 8-10, regardless of the outcome of the voting, but it wouldn’t hurt to help put our Indiana bubble on the tech map.
Our Winter Wonderland
Our winter wonderland is a land of wonder today. As in, I wonder if I’ll get to leave the house. On the docket today (tentatively): (a) our outing to get a live Christmas tree, (b) my marathon group design session this afternoon, and (c) the IU men’s basketball game tonight.
