We had the boys stay up a little past the start of our nighttime routines to watch the Mars Phoenix probe land on Mars. Or, more precisely, we watched Science Channel’s live coverage of the NASA engineers who made it happen.
The Short Story
I took a moment to accept copyblogger’s challenge to write a story in a 140-character tweet. There is still time to enter the first Twitter Writing Contest. Compose your story, and then post the link on the copyblogger site as a comment by 5p Central on Friday, May 23.
Tweeting Authentic
At this time last year, Twitter was just a blip. Today, it is a legitimate and effective way of connecting to others. On Friday, Larry Chiang posted yet another list of how to leverage Twitter for marketing purposes. I worry about strategies for tweeting that don’t start with being authentic.
The Lights Go Down
We have entered a new age of Twitter utility. From simple bedroom lights to houseplants to historic bridges, the inanimate is coming alive in the form of tweets to alert and respond to user interactions.
Blip
IU School of Informatics grad Erik Pukinskis tweeted something interesting just now—a link to the “Twitter for music,” a new music sharing service called Blip. If I can let the channel play in the background and hear the music others feed me, this could change the way I listen to music.
Closing the open tabs
One of the major casualties for me as I finished my classes was the dearth of blogging. Having been in a daily groove for the Fall semester, it is a bit disheartening to see all the unclaimed days in our BlogSchmog calendar. That sad fact is one of many things inspiring some change this summer. Here’s a few things that have been slowing down Firefox for me, waiting to become blog posts.
The Obama Stream
I compiled snapshots of the tweets Wednesday night from locals covering the Barack Obama campaign stop in Bloomington, Indiana. They included the pledges of allegiance and child bearing, as well as a fainting man (who is likely this guy from Comedy Central, so watch Thursday’s show). I’ll save commentary (except my own below, in tweet form) for a later date.
