RootsCamp II

I think that name has to go, as my vision for what this space should be is less about topic than discussion space. However, whatever name recognition it has will be useful to get people out for a second version.

Like all iterations, there will be some adjustments. Gone is the idea of a multi-day conference (that might resurface in the summer) and in its place is a single-session format … three hours, two discussion blocks. The focus of this TBD session — probably happening over winter break, in or about the holidays — will be “The Ideal Community Portal.” This was one of the action outcomes of the first Bloomington RootsCamp: addressing the need for a reliable information and communication resource for the local community. While this conversation will also be open to anyone who wants to participate, I’ll make a directed effort to recruit from key spheres of influence. Bloomingpedia. The City IT Department. UITS. Ivy Tech. The amorphous community of local bloggers. By scheduling around these key people, the conversation has a greater chance to not only raise the quality bar and produce action, but also to attract other participants.
