Cups

Archie only speaks a few words here and there, but has become quite adept at letting us know what he wants. He’s also, well, a bit particular about what it is he wants. He doesn’t just want water, he wants it in THIS cup. He doesn’t just want to play basketball, he wants to play it next to the window.

This morning, I’m sorting through garage sale boxes, he finds an old sippy cup missing a lid. This cup has two handles, a feature he truly appreciates. He pulls on my hand and walks toward the sink.

Me: Sweetie, there’s no lid. Look at this red cup! It has a lid! (but no handles)

Archie keeps gesturing toward the cup with handles, so I wind up handing him a cup with a lid, filled with water, and the double handled cup, empty.

He happily walks away.

I look over a few minutes later and he’s put the non-handled cup inside the other cup and is happily drinking, using the handles. When he’s done, he flips the handled cup upside down and dumps the other cup so he can continue playing with the handled cup. (Which is the reason for cups with lids).
