Finally. The Age of Flying Cars.

The car-plane weighs 1320 pounds and can carry a payload of one-third its weight. It has a 20-gallon tank and that lasts about four hours, claiming to get 30mpg in the air and 30-40mpg on the ground. The vehicle cruises at 120mph and needs about 1500 feet in order to takeoff. At last … we have reached the Age of Jetsons.

A Ph.D student in informatics at Indiana University, Kevin is rich in spirit. He wrestles and reads with his kids, does a hilarious Christian Slater imitation and lights up his wife's days. He thinks deeply about many things, including but not limited to basketball, politics, microblogging, parenting, online communities, complex systems and design theory. He didn't, however, think up this profile.

Thanks to Matt for the tip on the $148K investment in the Jetson’s future I’ve always wanted … Introducing (circa 2009) the TerreFugia Transition!

TerreFugia Transistion
The TerreFugia Transition is the first step toward becoming a Jetson.

The car-plane weighs 1320 pounds and can carry a payload of one-third its weight (so, maybe two adults and a computer). It has a 20-gallon tank and that lasts about four hours, claiming to get 30mpg in the air and 30-40mpg on the ground. The vehicle cruises at 120mph and needs about 1500 feet in order to takeoff. Presumably much less to land, if you do it incorrectly.

There is a nifty animation provided in the site.

Christmas 2009 is right around the corner …

A quick look at their site revealed that Terrafugia is based in Cambridge, MA. This will ensure that the Transition is fully roadrage-resistent to 1500 feet. Either that, or it will be equipped with anger-seeking missiles. Depends on whether the company founders are natives or transplants.
