This can’t be good …

20 minutes to kick-off (at least) and now past the start of Sunday NFL games, the NFL.com fantasy football site is showing this:

I wonder how much this untimely gaffe translates into lost revenue.

Well, the answer came recently in the form of this news blurb included in Fantasy Sports Trade Conference newsletter, Informant #14 (volume 6, issue 1), put out on January 4, 2007:

CBS SPORTSLINE.COM OFFERS FOOTBALL REBATE OFFER
A record number of fantasy football teams used CBS Sportsline.com’s Commissioner service this football season thanks to an aggressive promotional campaign and the introduction of a free product. But that heavy demand resulted in some bumps along the way for its pay customers and by season’s end even Sportsline’s management team felt the season wasn’t up to its normal standards. As a result, the company stepped forward last month and offered its customers a 50 percent discount for 2007 or a rebate from the 2006 season, an unprecedented offer for a major stats provider.

In an e-mail sent to Sportsline.com football commissioners on Dec. 14 (hopefully, including my own league boss), the offer was an option between a 50% discount on 2007 season, a 25% rebate on 2006 or no action. The deadline for the decision was December 31, 2006, though, so that wasn’t a lot of time to make a decision.
